Ciro Monoarfa Salomon Goudsmit
Is an artist fascinated by vibrations. Through the use of specific frequencies rhythms and movement, he connects with the body and the stories hidden in the muscles. Ciro’s practice is based on finding your own rhythm by creating a sensitivity for drum patterns and body tremors. His pieces move in between sound installation and a dance performance where the audience and the music play a crucial role. Inspired by clubbing and hip-hop rituals of a cypher (a circle). He involves the whole space sonically, shaking even the bones inside of the audience, for example by humming, dancing and shaking the space with transducers or soundsystems. Ciro choreographs his worlds through DIY instruments, synthesisers and drum machines. Decentralizing Western music by micro-tuning and his ethnomusicology research. This exploration comes from the desire to understand the inner body in relation to the physical world around us; to re-understand identity by adopting "mixedness" as a style of making.
The work they do as researcher involves giving workshops to create feedback loops from research to movement. Teaching at Colorblock, Berlin (residency for POC artist) and Darkmatter Collective in Amsterdam, Galery Lorong in Yogjakarta and Siku in Makassar with a hearing impaired group of dacners. In the workshop they bring subwoofers, drum patterns and polyrhythms in the analyze and ultimately at the end of the workshop enter a state of trance.
