This is an invitation

Is a performance for introverts and extroverts. It moves between sonic meditation that can be felt buy hugging the speakers and dancing together.

For me it traces the muscles and the stories hidden inside of them

It traces the influence of clubmusic, the importance of the drum, the kick, the bass

It traces back to the innovators-
It is giving blasian vibes, mixedkidz, ancestry, shaking, and community knowledge

My reasoning:

Through my study, I started questioning what dance is inside the institutions we move in. When dancing in Indonesia (Java and Sulawesi) I started to recognize the difference between western dance and traditional dance(in an Indonesian context)—and questioned how I move inside of this as a mixed kid. I started to see mixedness as a style. Looking at the rhythms, instruments, the relation between tonalities, drum patterns, and ways we use our body in movement. For me, it is a healing practice to see that there was so much beautiful exchange between places before the exploitation of the West. I realized that so many rhythms are living in our body, the ability to adapt and learn from others, and how I have been doing that for so long. Therefore I want to work with you to celebrate those rhythms.

Sonic Portals, A subwoofer Oddesey

In Sonic Portals, its creator – Ciro Goudsmit – combines his research on low-frequency oscillators, with (afro) futuristic thinking: A possibility to curve “reality” and create alternative ones, where colonialization didn’t happen.
With a group of intergalactic beings, they create a landscape of sound where you can feel your whole body shake. Using movement research, subwoofers, bass shakers, vocoders, and DYI instruments as elements to open different portals hidden in between the waves. Not in the need for another utopia but in the need for different options.

The performance created by Ciro Goudsmit and his team is a continuation of the STUDIO theatregallery’s trend in which young artists combine various forms and genres of art – in this instance sound installation, dance and video – in order to search for new means of expression and explore them as the carrier of contemporary, critical reflection on the world.
